first_imgIn just her third game after returning from a torn ACL and meniscus, Brittney Sykes exited Syracuse’s 85-74 loss to No. 4 Notre Dame on Sunday with an unspecified injury with 6:03 left in the first half and didn’t return. After collecting a steal and running up the court, play stopped and Sykes was hobbling under the basket. As she tearfully walked to the locker room under her own power, she appeared to be limping and not putting any pressure on her right leg. After the game, SU head coach Quentin Hillsman said that he didn’t know what her status was or when he’d get any word regarding her health.“We understand that we have to finish the game and we have to play,” Hillsman said. “Our players did a very good job of putting together a couple of solid runs after that.”Sykes didn’t return to the game in the second half, but rejoined the team on the bench and was seemingly in good spirits.AdvertisementThis is placeholder textShe had been playing with a brace on her knee since returning from the knee injury she suffered on March 22, in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Chattanooga. After her first game back against Cornell on Dec. 28, she said she felt 100 percent.“It was hard for me to see because of what happened last year,” junior Brianna Butler said. “It was just shocking for it to happen in a similar manner. It was hard for me to see.” Comments Facebook Twitter Google+ Published on January 4, 2015 at 4:56 pm Contact Sam: [email protected] | @SamBlum3last_img
