He had pinned Lujan in the first round in the Wellington Tournament in December.Lujan now advances to his second consecutive state tournament and will be Wellington’s lone representative in the Class 4A state tournament in Salina next weekend.“I think I’m the happiest I have ever been,” Lujan said after his big win Saturday. “Last time he slammed me and dislocated my shoulder.”When asked what his strategy was going into this match, Lujan responded: “Don’t get slammed down and dislocate my shoulder.”Lujan scored a takedown early in the first period and that was all he needed. The two boys would exchange escapes thereafter.Lujan appeared to be in trouble at the start of the second period when he was slammed down after taking the upper position. But he eventually was able to get out of the situation and earned an escape for it. “It really was identical to what happened to him in Wellington,” said Wellington head wrestling coach Mitch McComb. “There he landed on his shoulder and got pinned. He was able to avoid that this time.”The state tournament brackets will be available soon. It should be a tough bracket. Despite King being undefeated he was ranked fifth in the state.Lujan was the exception to Wellington’s regional fortunes, during what was a rather bleak performance otherwise for this year’s dual Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV champions.Ian Groom gets pin Saturday afternoon.Wellington could not get any other wrestler out of the consolation quarterfinals. Ian Groom at 195 scored a pin early over Edwin Pena of Hugoton, but he was eliminated by Nicholas Lehman of Andover Central by pin thereafter. The Crusaders had little luck in the lower weight classes, going winless in the tournament.Austin Schoemann at 182 scored a 3-1 decision against Wade Hall of Augusta in the first round on Friday, but was pinned by No. 1 ranked Curtis Rylant of Clearwater and then was eliminated by Grant Schooner of Andover Central by pin Saturday.Wellington came into the tournament having two less starters than previous thought. Seniors Jace Lowe and Shane Hughes were suspended for disciplinary reasons. The Crusaders were already shorthanded having lost Skyler Struble earlier in the season and Graysen DeJarnett and Jason Norris out for the season with concussions. So going into Friday’s regional, Lujan was the lone upperclassman with any kind of regional wrestling experience. Subsequently, Wellington finished with just 34 points and placed 14th out of 15 teams. El Dorado won the regional with 154 points. As for Lujan, this was his tournament. On Friday, he received a by in the first round, pinned Trenton Ging of Winfield 1:31, and decisioned Seth Simmons of Pratt 4-1 to qualify for state. The Wellington results are as follows:KSHSAA 4A – Rose Hill – Regional Results for Wellington106 – Tim Schmidt (11-15) place is unknown and scored 3.00 team points.    Champ.
