Sunderland need a boss and players with a real passion for the club – Ferdinand

first_imgSunderland must bring in a manager and players who understand what it means to represent such a ‘massive club’, Anton Ferdinand has told talkSPORT.The Black Cats will spend the 2017/18 season in the Championship after a disastrous year under David Moyes, who quit as boss on Monday.Ferdinand hopes they will bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt but insists, if they are to stand a chance of doing so, they must replace Moyes and many of their squad members with people who have a real passion for the club. The 32-year-old defender, who spent three years at the Stadium of Light, said: “Fans deserve someone in the technical area who shares their passion and deserve players who share their passion too.“The club is massive and shouldn’t be in the Championship.“The club as a whole needs to regroup and get players and management in there who understand what it’s like to wear the shirt, understand what it is like to be in front of the supporters.“The team that I was in up there was full of players who knew the Premier League and played with determination and knew that you had to compete and run and work hard for the shirt before the quality and the ball came into play.“The supporters up there are fantastic and they deserve players and a manager who understand and knows what it’s like to be involved at the club. It is a massive, massive club.”Listen to the full interview with Anton Ferdinand on the Jim White show, above.last_img read more
