Glenties to be lit up with memories of loved ones this Christmas

first_imgThe town of Glenties has come up with a beautiful way of remembering lost loved ones this Christmas. The current lights have been illuminating the town during the festive season for the past 17 years. But with the need to replace the lights, the town’s Development Group face a cost of more than €10,000. The committee, under chairperson Brian Carr, has come up with a touching scheme to sponsor 1,000 new bulbs to light up the town. Each bulb can be purchased for €3 each and the name of each lost loved one can be written on each bulb. The bulbs are for sale in shops around the town and are selling really well and will remain on sale until November 30th.The balance of the €10,000 will be made up by donations. The switch on will take place on Sunday 4th of December and we will have a remembrance service on the Main Street and of course Santa and friends will also be there.Chairperson Brian Carr “People think it’s a really good idea and it is a nice way of not just funding our new lights but also of remembering all our loved ones who have passed away.”Glenties to be lit up with memories of loved ones this Christmas was last modified: November 15th, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
